Michael Kimmelman

Michael Kimmelman, chief art critic of the New York Times, is based in Berlin starting this fall, writing a column for the paper on culture and society across Europe. His book, Portraits: Talking with Artists at the Met, the Modern, the Louvre, and Elsewhere (1999), was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Criticism in 2000. It was selected as a notable book of the year by The Washington Post and the New York Times, and as best book of the year by Publisher’s Weekly. Mr. Kimmelman is a regular contributor to the New York Review of Books, a concert pianist, and the author, most recently, of The Accidental Masterpiece: On the Art of Life and Vice Versa, which became a national bestseller.
